1.
How are people followed up after a "JESUS" film showing?

At the end of each "JESUS" film showing, "JESUS" film team workers and local pastors gather new believers to pray and instruct them in their new faith. The gospel is clarified and viewers are given the opportunity to indicate their decisions to follow Christ. Names and addresses of those who choose Jesus are documented. Local church members then coordinate Bible studies and offer invitations to local church services. If no church exists, one is often created.

Nearly 6,000 "JESUS" film workers worldwide show the film an average of three times a week. During the last two decades, more than 1,500 ministries have partnered with The JESUS Film Project to show the film around the world. Each ministry incorporates the film in their ongoing missions and church-planting efforts. As "JESUS" film workers, denominations, missions agencies, and local church leaders work together, new believers grow in their faith.

2.
How do I find out if the "JESUS" film is translated into a specific language?

A list of languages is posted at www.JESUSfilm.org, by selecting "Languages" on the navigation on the left.

3.
What biblical translation was used for the script in the movie?

The translation used in the film is Good News for Modern Man (Today's English Version). However, some passages such as The Lord's Prayer and the Beatitudes are quoted from The King James Version.

4.
How biblically accurate is the film?

More than 450 religious leaders and scholars evaluated the script to ensure historical and biblical accuracy. The script is closely based on Luke's Gospel, so almost every word Jesus speaks is from the Bible. Intense efforts to portray the Palestinian culture of nearly 2,000 years ago include: hand-woven clothing in only the 35 colors used then, pottery made with first-century methods, and removal of modern telephone poles and power lines from the landscape. Whenever possible, scenes were filmed on the sites where they took place 2,000 years ago.

5.
Why was Jesus depicted with light skin?

Film producer, John Heyman sought an actor for the leading role who spoke English without an accent. Heyman and his staff screen tested 263 people before selecting England's Brian Deacon to play the role of Jesus. Mr. Deacon was chosen because of his ability to portray Jesus as Luke the physician documented him in the Gospel of Luke. All other actors in the film are from Israel and surrounding areas.

6.
Why was Jesus depicted with long hair?

While research has found no evidence of Jesus' physical characteristics, we know that in contrast to the Gentiles, Jews were heavily bearded with long hair. This is also the most familiar depiction of Jesus.

7.
Was the actor who played Jesus a Christian?

During filming, Brian Deacon, who plays Jesus, responded to the question, "Who is Jesus to you?" by saying, "I've had a number of good conversations about that with Tom Pannella, my stand-in. I was raised in Oxfordshire. My mother was Catholic and my father was Protestant, but they agreed I should seek my faith for myself. Because of this, I probably spent more time that the average person evaluating what I believe. I believe that God sent Jesus to die for our sins. He is the Savior, but I don't know if I'll ever be like the Christians you have in America who go around saying that they are 'born-again.' The more I learn about Jesus, the less sure I am that I will ever deserve to be called by His name. I fall so far short. I feel like I'm just beginning on the path of faith. Every day when I go to the set, I realize how mortal I really am. How can mortal man portray immortality? I count it a privilege to be one of His followers. I would say that I'm a Christian, maybe not in the same sense that others talk about, but God means a great deal to me, even more since Tom and I speak to Him so often."

8.
Why were the nails in Jesus' wrists and not hands in the crucifixion scene?

According to research on the method of crucifixion in Jesus' day, the nail went through the forearm between the radius and the ulna.

9.
Why was the film based on the Gospel of Luke?

Before the film was created, producer John Heyman commissioned a survey of seminary presidents. The large majority of them recommended the film be based on the Book of Luke.

10.
Who did the musical score of the film?

Riga (born Nachium Heiman) composed the musical score for the film.

11.
How is it explained when members of the audience think the actors are real and that they actually speak their language?

At the beginning of the film the narrator states that the events taking place in the movie are historic in nature. However, many are caught up in the display of light and sound and may not listen. This is why the teams often spend significant time before and after the film and during reel changes explaining and clarifying the historic context of the life of Christ. Follow-up teams are formed to continue the education process.

12.
Why is there no crown of thorns in the film?

The crown of thorns was not mentioned in the Gospel of Luke.

13.
Why wasn't Simon of Cyrene depicted as a black man?

Prior to filming, researchers concluded that Simon of Cyrene was probably not of African descent, but was most likely Jewish in route to Jerusalem for the Passover celebration.

14.
Are there parts of the film that are taken from books of the Bible other than the Book of Luke?

Yes. Three verses are spoken that are not from the Book of Luke: John 3:16, Revelation 3:20 and Matthew 28:19.

15.
Should the film be shown to children?

Yes, but give caution to the graphic detail during the crucifixion. The children's version of the "JESUS" film, "The Story of Jesus for Children," was specifically produced for children in 2000, and is suitable for children ages 4 through 14. This version is 62-minutes long, half the length of the original version, and gives children the true story of Jesus from a child's perspective. Please visit the www.JesusForChildren.org Website to find out more about this resource.

17.
Why is there an Old Testament introduction to the "JESUS" film?

The Old Testament introduction was produced in 2003 to put the life of Christ in its historical context. By portraying the creation of the earth, the events of the Garden of Eden, the lives of Abraham and Isaac, and the prophecies of Isaiah, viewers around the world are able to see how Christ's life and message fit into a much broader historical context. Many viewers worldwide resonate with this biblical history since their own religious traditions intersect with many of the same historical characters and events.

18.
What rating has the Motion Picture Association of America given to the film?

The "JESUS" film was given a General Audience rating or "G" rating back in 1979 when it was released to audiences in the United States.

The "G" rating is considered suitable for viewing by all ages. This rating indicates films that are unlikely to disturb most viewers.

How are The JESUS Film Project's statistics compiled?

The JESUS Film Project retains the services of full-time and highly-qualified team of statisticians who track the worldwide distribution of the "JESUS" film. As reports come in from countries worldwide these figures are checked and double checked against criteria that include times, dates, languages, geographic locations and reliable estimates of viewers.

They coordinate statistical information received from national "JESUS" film leaders in countries around the world and also from American "JESUS" film staff and church groups that travel to various nations to participate in this distribution effort.

These statisticians also receive information through an extensive worldwide system of reporting that is coordinated by the Field Information Services department of The JESUS Film Project. All these reports are compiled into two extensive databases and then calculated into a statistical overview of this outreach.
