Every year, villagers from the surrounding region travel to worship the ancestral spirits in the village of *Bola. In June 2008 one "JESUS" film team obtained permission to go to Bola and show the film. At the first showing to an audience of at least 200, many people came to Christ. The team faithfully did follow-up, which eventually led to a church plant of 120 new believers. Three miss
ionaries, trained by Great Commission Movement and sent to Bola by a church partnership team, came to manage the follow-up and discipleship of these 120 believers.
News of this church spread rapidly throughout the region, causing a stir in the local community. When the ancestral idol disappeared, a local witch doctor spread a rumor that the three missionaries stole the idol. At a community-wide meeting with the district head, more than 2,000 villagers gathered, some armed with sticks and daggers, intent on harming the missionaries. A police officer, after speaking with the missionaries, persuaded the district head and the crowd to not harm the men, saying misfortune would come to them.
The chief changed his mind and asked the missionaries to leave. After leaving the village, they prayed, thanking the Lord for His protection. As they were going, a man chased after them saying, "Your God is the true God, Your God is the true God. If this god can be stolen, that means he can’t save me.” Benjamin, a regional coordinator shared, "He too gave his life to Christ." Although this man was an idol worshipper and one of the accusers, he too gave his life to Jesus!
Today a church of 120 believers exists in the village, thanks to the faithfulness of this "JESUS" film team to persevere in sharing the gospel and following up new believers. This church also has sent film teams to other villages, initiating follow-up and church planting, resulting in the establishment of two additional churches. Reports of changed lives have spread throughout the region, so now Bola is known as a worship center for the God of the Bible and not for idols!
