Town Leaders Receive Christ at “JESUS” Film Premiere

  • Africa

A dedication ceremony took place for the premiere of the "JESUS" film in the heart language of a people group in a North African country. There had been a delay sending invitations to authorities in the town chosen for the premiere, and the sub-prefect-highest local authority-of the town chastised the ceremony's organizers for that delay. He deemed the premiere event as highly significant for their town and said the late invitations "did not make it possible for all the authorities to attend the ceremony and to prepare a speech commensurate with the high importance of the event." Nevertheless, several town authorities responded promptly and attended the ceremony.

Following the opening words of dedication, the disgruntled sub-prefect stood to speak. Although initially he criticized the organizers of the dedication ceremony for the late invitations, he now noted that the apologies expressed by the church representatives had appeased the hearts of the authorities, and they would stay and watch the first showing of "JESUS." He concluded by congratulating the churches and Campus Crusade for Christ for "carrying out a very great salvation work for the ... people."

The first showing of "JESUS" took place immediately following the dedication ceremony at the same location. The film team coordinator shared: "That gave the opportunity to all the authorities present to see the film directly and in full. At the time of the call at the end of film, the sub-prefect who was frustrated during the ceremony was the first to raise his hand to accept Jesus into his life, without hesitation, nor shame. His reaction also influenced the other authorities around him to raise their hands and pray." Fifteen hundred people attended the showing of "JESUS," and 350 made decisions to follow Christ!
