Breaking Down Resistance

  • Africa

Known for their resistance to the gospel and idol worship, the villagers of Akar* previously had rejected a missionary who attempted to share the gospel and introduce educational and literacy programs into the community. Identifying Akar as an unreached community, Nigerian Expansion Movement leaders sent Stephen, a trained "JESUS" film worker, to meet with the village chief. Stephen convinced the chief to allow the film team to show the film, saying that by God’s grace they would help his people and benefit the community—if they would allow the team to share the gospel.

Nearly 500 villagers watched the "JESUS" film and 97 prayed to receive Christ. Stephen led the follow-up training for the group of new believers, a congregation which now has swelled to 170 people in a community where no church had previously existed.  Also, this "JESUS" film outreach has led to the planting of five additional churches. Praise the Lord for multiplying disciples and trained leaders in this unreached region of Nigeria!
