The Good News Translation (GNT) is used in the English "JESUS" film. This Bible translation, originally called the Good News for Modern Man or Today’s English Version, was published in 1976 by the American Bible Society.
We went to great lengths to make the film as biblically and historically accurate as possible. The Gospel of Luke is the basis for the script, and every word Jesus speaks is a quotation from the Bible. A team of 450 leaders and scholars reviewed the script to ensure that it was true to the biblical account of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection.
This extends to our treatment of the historical setting. "JESUS" was filmed on location to portray Palestinian culture in the first century A.D. In fact, the clothing, pottery, and other props were made using first-century methods, and telephone poles and power lines were removed from the landscapes.
You can find more detailed director’s notes on the movie’s accuracy here.

At the end of each "JESUS" film showing, team workers and local pastors gather new believers to pray and instruct them in their new faith. The gospel is clarified and viewers are given the opportunity to indicate their decisions to follow Christ. The teams document the names and addresses of those who choose Jesus.
These new brothers and sisters in Christ are then invited to visit local churches and attend Bible studies with people in their communities.
If there is no local church to welcome them in, one is often formed.

We exist to equip the church to communicate the gospel, especially in their communities. We make strategic resources available through our online store and through free, streaming videos on the jesusfilm.org website via the ‘Watch’ section. Each method will help a church conduct outreach no matter their budget. And we also have incredible strategies and case studies of those who have done this before.
Jesus Film Project is committed to the vision of the Great Commission as laid out by Jesus Christ in Matthew 28:18-20: “And Jesus came and said to them, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age’” (English Standard Version).
We trust God to help us carry out this vision through giving everyone in the world an opportunity to know and trust Him through our films and strategies. See our vision video here for more.
We can only trust the Lord to accomplish His mission. We have seen Him provide the staff members, financial resources and partners to take Jesus to the world for more than 35 years. If you would like to learn more about how to partner with us, you can visit our “How to Help” page and give through going, giving or praying.

The movie "JESUS" is based on the Gospel of Luke, and as such any script translation that ultimately becomes a language version of "JESUS" is heavily dependent on faithful Bible translators. For a list of the translation teams that we are indebted to, please refer to this PDF.
