With Valentine's Day here, red and pink hearts are everywhere, reminding us to honor the ones we love.
As a Christian during this romantic time of year, I'm often reminded of my first love, Jesus. His gift to me makes all the chocolates and roses fade by comparison.
Here at Jesus Film Project®, we receive stories of changed lives every day that make the most elaborate Valentine's cards seem lame. God's love reaches beyond anything we could do to express love one to another. Take this story for instance:
In a small country in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, Linda and her team walked along the road and up the hill entering the university. Their feet ached from all the walking on this mission trip and their spirits were heavy with the needs they saw all around them. Still, in obedience they prayed and divided into groups of three, ready to share a message of hope with any student who would listen.
Linda and her friends saw a student sitting at a desk outside and approached him. After they made introductions, the student, Douglas, quietly agreed to watch a short film on the Jesus Film Project app called "Venia"—a powerful portrayal of the freedom that comes when we love and forgive those who have wronged us.
After the video, the conversation quickly turned to spiritual things. Douglas told them he wanted to know how to have a personal relationship with God. With the "Knowing God Personally" booklet, Linda explained the gospel and asked Douglas if he would like to know that Christ was at the center of his life as his Savior.
He softly said, "I would love that!"
In the next few moments, Douglas prayed, showing his faith in Jesus, and became a child of God. On a dusty road in the University of the South Pacific, God called a single student to follow Him. Douglas was ready to respond to the call; he just needed someone to point the way.
Jesus continues to use films to draw the lost to Him. You can be part of this too. This Valentine's season start a conversation about God by sharing one of these short films with someone you love.
