Thailand

June 2022

The greatest gospel gap in the world is in 50 countries—they have barely any new, thriving churches. And nearly 75% of all the world’s unreached people (3.6 billion) live in 12 of those countries. These people have the least access to the gospel in their own language.

Engage in strategic, focused prayer for the 12 countries of the world that are least reached with the gospel without ever leaving home.

Every month in 2022 we’ll feature one of these countries, familiarize you with its culture, and share prayer requests addressing the country’s specific needs. We believe the light of Jesus can shine through!

All about Thailand

Thailand is the most homogeneous country we have visited this year. Approximately 97% of its people are ethnically Thai and 95% identify Buddhism as their religion. Even the average temperature holds steady between 77° and 84°F.

According to multiple web sites, Thailand’s capital, Bangkok, is the most visited city in the world with over 22,000,000 visitors each year.

Thailand is second only to China for the most number of Buddhists living in one country. There are about 35,000 Buddhist temples throughout Thailand.

Thailand is the only Southeast Asian country that was never colonized by a European country. In the Thai language, the name of the country means “land of the free.”

There are 76 letters in the Thai alphabet, including 44 consonants and 32 vowels! Thai also has five tones.

Thai cuisine includes four main types: soups, spicy salads, pounded foods (with flavors typically ground and pounded in a mortar and pestle), and curries.

Pray with us…

Pray for anti-trafficking organizations across the country that work closely with local and national governments to combat pervasive human trafficking in Thailand. Pray for Christian nationals to step into social work, law enforcement, judicial positions and every sector of society to rid Thailand of this form of modern-day slavery.

Tourism is extremely important to the Thai economy. In fact, Bangkok was the most visited city in the world in 2019. Sadly, the pandemic has drastically reduced tourism numbers, negatively impacting the local economy. Pray that God will not only protect the Thai people from COVID-19, but allow tourism to increase again. May He provide for the needs of those who have lost their incomes.

Thailand is one of the leading social media markets in Southeast Asia with over 50 million Facebook users and 80% of the population using YouTube. Pray that many will see and respond to online ministries and Christian posts that spark their interest in who Jesus really is.
