Easter·23 of 29

Death of Jesus

Jesus continues to hang on the cross. Darkness comes over everything. The veil in the temple is torn right down the middle. Jesus breathes heavily. He prays and gives up His spirit willingly into the Father’s hand. And then He dies.

Luke 23:44-47

It was now about the sixth hour, and darkness came over all the land until the ninth hour. The sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was torn down the middle. Then Jesus called out in a loud voice, “Father, into Your hands I commit My Spirit.” And when He had said this, He breathed His last. When the centurion saw what had happened, he gave glory to God, saying, “Surely this was a righteous man.”

It was now noon and a darkness fell across the whole land for three hours, until 3 o'clock. The curtain of the temple was torn right down the middle. Father, into Your hands I commit My Spirit. Now when the captain of the soldiers saw what had happened, he glorified God, saying: Glory be to God! Certainly this was a righteous Man.
