JESUS·38 of 61

Widow's Offering

In the temple, Jesus watches a widow give all that she has. People in the crowd note how little she gives. They ask for her to give more. But Jesus proclaims to everyone that the widow gave more than everyone else. Everyone else who contributed gave out of the extra money they had. But the widow, even in her poverty, gave everything she owned.

Luke 21:1-4

Then Jesus looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury, and He saw a poor widow put in two small copper coins. “Truly I tell you,” He said, “this poor widow has put in more than all the others. For they all contributed out of their surplus, but she out of her poverty has put in all she had to live on.”

Day after day Jesus spoke against many of the scribes and Pharisees, saying they preached the Law, but did not follow the law themselves. While in the temple, Jesus saw a very poor widow offering two copper coins. It's very little. Can't she give more? I tell you that this poor widow put in more than all the others. For the others offered their gifts from what they had to spare of their riches. But she, poor as she is, put in all that she had to live on.
