Baptism of Jesus by John

Elizabeth's son, John, proclaims that someone is coming who is much greater than he is.

At that time Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. But John tried to prevent Him, saying, “I need to be baptized by You, and do You come to me?” “Let it be so now,” Jesus replied. “It is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness in this way.” Then John permitted Him. As soon as Jesus was baptized, He went up out of the water. Suddenly the heavens were opened, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and resting on Him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased!”

Turn away from your sins, and be baptized, and God will forgive your sins. God, himself, spoke of this when Elizabeth’s son, John the Baptist, was baptizing men and women in the Jordan River. I baptize you with water. But someone is coming who is much greater than I am. I'm not good enough even to untie his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. He has his threshing fork with him, to thresh out all the grain and gather the wheat into his barn. And the Holy Spirit came down upon Jesus in the form of a dove. And a voice came from Heaven and said, "You are my own dear Son. I am pleased with you."
