生き返ったジャイルの娘
イエスはナザレに戻り、会堂に行きます。彼は聖書を読むことを求められ、イザヤの書を手渡されます。そこからイエスはイザヤ 61章2節を読みます。 その預言は、貧しい者に良い知らせを伝え、捕われ人には解放を、盲人に視力回復を、抑圧されている者に自由を宣言し、今は主がその民を救う時だと告げます。 イエスは読み終えると、今読んだ通り預言が成就したと、人々に告げます。 イエスが会堂を出ると、群衆が押し寄せます。他の者をかきわけて声が上がります。その男ヤイロは、自分の１２歳になる病気の娘を助けてほしいと、イエスに懇願します。 別の男がヤイロに駆け寄り、あなたの娘はもう死んだので先生をわずらわせないようにと言います。イエスは振り返り、恐れないように、信じれば娘は良くなると伝えます。 イエスと弟子達はヤイロの家族を訪ねます。近所の人々が、死んでしまった娘の為に悲しんでいます。娘は息絶え、小屋に横たわっています。イエスは、娘をしばらく見つめます。それから娘の母親に向かって彼女を慰めます。イエスは、娘は死んでいない、眠っているだけだ、と言います。 イエスは座って娘をしばらく見つめてから、起きなさい、と言うと、娘は起き上がります。

But Jesus took her by the hand and called out, “Child, get up!” Her spirit returned, and at once she got up. And He directed that she be given something to eat. Her parents were astounded, but Jesus ordered them not to tell anyone what had happened.
