My friend, many have undertaken to record
the wondrous events which transpired.
Just as they were handed down to us from
the original eyewitnesses,
disciples and servants of the world.
This has been my work,
carefully studying all of it from the beginning,
just so I could write for you,
an orderly record of all that happened
to assure the exact truth
of what you were taught.
The angel Gabriel was sent from God
to a town in Galilee called Nazareth
to a virgin who was
engaged to a man named Joseph,
a descendant of David.
The virgin's name was Mary.
Greetings, favored one. The Lord is with you.
Blessed are you among women.
Do not be afraid, Mary,
for you have favor with God.
You will conceive and bear a son,
and you will call him Jesus.
He will be great
and will be called the Son of the Highest,
and his reign will never end.
Yes, but how can this be since I am a virgin?
The Holy Spirit will come upon you,
and the power of the Highest will overshadow you,
so the Holy Offspring
shall be called the Son of God.
Elizabeth, your cousin,
is to be the mother of a child in her old age.
She who was called barren
is now in her sixth month,
for nothing is impossible with God.
I am his servant. The Lord will be done.
Thy will be done, Lord.
