અસત્ય અને વ્યર્થતાને મારાથી દૂર રાખજો, મને દરિદ્રતા કે દ્રવ્ય પણ ન આપશો; મને જરૂર જેટલી રોટલી આપજો. નહિ તો કદાચ હું વધારે છલકાઈ જાઉં અને તમારો નકાર કરીને કહું કે, “ઈશ્વર તે વળી કોણ છે?” અથવા હું કદાચ ગરીબ થઈને ચોરી કરું અને મારા ઈશ્વરના નામની નિંદા કરું.

એમ થયું કે ઈસુ એક જગ્યાએ પ્રાર્થના કરતા હતા. ઈસુ પ્રાર્થના કરી રહ્યા પછી, તેમના શિષ્યોમાંના એકે ઈસુને કહ્યું કે, ‘પ્રભુ, યોહાને તેમના શિષ્યોને પ્રાર્થના કરતા શીખવ્યું હતું તેમ આપ પણ અમને શીખવો.’” ઈસુએ તેઓને કહ્યું કે, તમે પ્રાર્થના કરો, ત્યારે કહો કે, ઓ સ્વર્ગમાંના અમારા પિતા, તમારું નામ પવિત્ર મનાઓ; તમારું રાજ્ય આવો; જેમ સ્વર્ગમાં તેમ પૃથ્વી પર તમારી ઇચ્છા પૂરી થાઓ. દિવસની અમારી રોટલી આજ અમને આપો; અને અમારાં પાપ અમને માફ કરો; કેમ કે અમે પોતે પણ અમારા દરેક ઋણીને માફ કરીએ છીએ. અને અમને પરીક્ષણમાં પડવા ન દો, પણ દુષ્ટથી અમારો છુટકારો કરો.
