Wie van jullie wil Mij volgen?
Ik wil U wel volgen, Meester,
maar eerst moet ik de boel thuis op order brengen.
Iemand die begint met ploegen maar steeds achterom kijkt, is niet geschikt voor Gods Koninkrijk.
Als iemand Mij wil volgen, moet hij zichzelf verloochenen,
elke dag zijn kruis opnemen, en Mij volgen.
Want wie zijn leven veilig wil stellen, zal het verliezen
en wie zijn leven zal verliezen om Mij, zal het redden.
Wat heeft een mens eraan als hij de hele wereld wint, maar zijn eigen ziel verliest?
Als iemand zich schaamt voor Mij en voor wat ik leer?
Voor zo iemand zal de Zoon des mensen zich schamen als Hij komt in Zijn glorie,
en de glorie van de Vader en de engelen.
Ik verzeker je.
Een aantal van jullie zullen niet sterven voordat ze Gods koninkrijk hebben gezien.
