Then Jesus said to all of them, “If anyone wants to come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow Me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it. What does it profit a man to gain the whole world, yet lose or forfeit his very self? If anyone is ashamed of Me and My words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when He comes in His glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels. But I tell you truly, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God.”

Kas keegi teist järgneb mulle?
Mina järgnen sulle, Isand,
aga enne luba mul minna ja jätta hüvasti kodustega.
Ükski, kes on pannud käe adra külge ja siis vaatab aina tagasi,
ei kõlba Jumala riigile.
Kui keegi tahab käia minu järel, peab ta salgama iseenda,
võtma iga päev oma risti enese peale ja järgnema mulle.
Sest kes iganes tahab päästa oma elu, kaotab selle,
ja kes iganes kaotab oma elu minu pärast, see päästab selle.
Mis kasu on inimesel, kui ta võidaks terve maailma, aga kaotaks iseenese hinge?
Kui keegi häbeneb mind ja minu sõnu,
häbeneb ka Inimese Poeg teda, kui ta tuleb oma kirkuses
ning Isa ja pühade inglite kirkuses.
