Coming Home

That winter…at age 25, I left home. Boldly and unashamedly, I asked my father to sell his house, and give me half of the inheritance so that I could go to the city and make my dream come true. Not only did I get half of the inheritance from my father, but my older brother gave me the other half… because he loved me. I promised them I’d be back with more money to buy us a bigger house. But I was wrong… I lost it all. I hadn’t been home in ten years because I was too ashamed. But I missed them… That night…I decided to go home for a short visit… secretly. So much had changed. I wondered if I would still recognize them. I was hoping to see my old neighbors. Maybe they would know where my family had moved to. But instead of seeing my neighbors, I see a date of demolition. I thought I would never find them…But suddenly… JIAN-HENG?! I didn’t think I would see my father again after all that I had done. I wanted to tell him how sorry I am… But I couldn't say a word. I wasn’t ready to hear what my father was about to tell me… After I left home, my brother worked day and night… …so that he could buy our old apartment back… because he worried that I would not be able to find my way home… All these years, he had been waiting for me to come home… but he didn’t get a chance…he passed away in an accident. My tears wouldn’t stop falling. I finally told my father… I am sorry for what I did and I shouldn’t have waited this long to come home. Father told me how thankful he was that I finally came home before the house was demolished. My brother would have been really thrilled to see me home because that’s all he ever wanted. I’m forever grateful for my brother. Because of what he had done, I was able to find my way home. In fact, we all have an older brother who loves us, who laid down his life for our sins, to pay for our debts… So that we can be reconciled to our heavenly father who has been waiting for us to come home. The way home is to believe Jesus And accept his love for you. Will you come home?
