At that time Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. But John tried to prevent Him, saying, “I need to be baptized by You, and do You come to me?” “Let it be so now,” Jesus replied. “It is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness in this way.” Then John permitted Him. As soon as Jesus was baptized, He went up out of the water. Suddenly the heavens were opened, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and resting on Him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased!”

Abbandonate i vostri peccati! E sarete battezzati! E Dio perdonerà i vostri peccati. Dio stesso parlò di questo quando il figlio di Elisabetta, Giovanni battista, battezzava la gente nel fiume Giordano. Io vi battezzo con acqua ma sta per venire uno più potente di me. Io non sono degno nemmeno di allacciargli i calzari. Lui vi battezzerà con lo Spirito Santo e col fuoco. Egli tiene in mano il ventilabro per separare la paglia dal grano che raccoglierà nel suo granaio. Lo Spirito Santo scese su Gesù in forma di colomba. Una voce scese dal cielo e disse: "Tu sei il mio diletto Figlio, in te mi sono compiaciuto."
