Jesus Proclaims Fulfillment of the Scriptures

When Jesus returns to Nazareth, He goes to the synagogue. He's asked to read the Scriptures and is handed the Book of Isaiah. From it, He reads Isaiah 61:1-2. The prophecy speaks of bringing good news to the poor, proclaiming liberty to the captives, recovery of sight to the blind, freeing the oppressed, and announcing that it's time the Lord will save His people. When He finishes reading, Jesus announces to the people that the prophecy has come true as it was just read.

Isaiah 61:1-2

The Spirit of the Lord GOD is on Me, because the Lord has anointed Me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent Me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and freedom to the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of our God’s vengeance, to comfort all who mourn,

Then Jesus came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. As was His custom, He entered the synagogue on the Sabbath. And when He stood up to read, the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to Him. Unrolling it, He found the place where it was written: “The Spirit of the Lord is on Me, because He has anointed Me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

and He began by saying, “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” All spoke well of Him and marveled at the gracious words that came from His lips. “Isn’t this the son of Joseph?” they asked. Jesus said to them, “Surely you will quote this proverb to Me: ‘Physician, heal yourself! Do here in Your hometown what we have heard that You did in Capernaum.’” Then He added, “Truly I tell you, no prophet is accepted in his hometown.

On hearing this, all the people in the synagogue were enraged. They got up, drove Him out of the town, and led Him to the brow of the hill on which the town was built, in order to throw Him over the cliff. But Jesus passed through the crowd and went on His way. Then He went down to Capernaum, a town in Galilee, and on the Sabbath He began to teach the people.

Dia tonga tao Nazareta, izay nahabe Azy, Izy. Manahoana. Manahoana. Araka ny fanaony dia niditra tao amin’ny synagoga tamin’ny andro Sabata Izy. Nantsoina Izy hamaky teny ao amin'ny bokin'i Isaia mpaminany. Ny Fanahin'i Jehovah no ato Amiko, satria nanosotra Ahy hitory teny soa mahafaly amin’ny mahantra Izy, Naniraka Ahy hitory fandefasana amin’ny mpifatotra Izy, sy fampahiratana amin’ny jamba. Hanafaka izay nampahorina, ary hitory ny taona ankasitrahin’i Jehovah.’’ Mahay miteny. Tanteraka eto anatrehanareo izany Soratra izany, izay novakina ho rentsika teo. Tanteraka ny Soratra Masina? Ka ny Mesia irery ihany ange no mahatanteraka izany e! Amin'ny fomba ahoana? Hataonareo Amiko tokoa izao ohabolana izao hoe, Dokotera, sitrano ny tenanao:’ Ary mbola hampinareo hoe, Ataovy eto amin'ny taninao koa izay renay nataonao tao Kapernaomy." Lazaiko aminareo, tsy misy mpaminany izay ankasitrahina ao amin’ny taniny! Izany teny izany no nanehoan'i Jesoa fa Izy no Mesia, Voahosotr' Andriamanitra, nirahina hamonjy ny olony. Fa ny Jiosy tsy nanaiky Azy ho ilay Mesia. Nokasain'ireo havarina any an-tevana i Jesoa, fa namakivaky teo afovoany Izy, ka lasa nandeha,
