Paying Taxes to Caesar

The Pharisees tell Jesus they know He teaches right things. They say Jesus doesn't pay attention to anyone's status. But that Jesus teaches the truth about God's will for all people. And then they ask about paying taxes. The Pharisee asks Jesus whether or not it's right that they pay taxes to Caesar. Jesus asks the Pharisees to show him a silver coin.

“Teacher,” they inquired, “we know that You speak and teach correctly. You show no partiality but teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. Is it lawful for us to pay taxes to Caesar or not?” But Jesus saw through their duplicity and said to them, “Show Me a denarius. Whose image and inscription are on it?” “Caesar’s,” they answered. So Jesus told them, “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.” And they were unable to trap Him in His words before the people. And amazed at His answer, they fell silent.

Nauczycielu, wiem, że to czego tak gorliwie uczysz jest prawdą. Wiemy, że na pozycję ludzi nie zwracasz uwagi lecz nauczasz prawdy o woli Bożej dla człowieka. Rzeknij więc, czy prawo zezwala na płacenie podatków cesarzowi, czy też nie zezwala? Uważaj, Panie! On chce Cię zwieść! Pokażcie mi srebrną monetę. Czyje imię i podobizna jest na niej? Cezara! Oddajcie Cezarowi, co należy do Cezara. A Bogu co należy do Boga. Dobrze im powiedział.
