Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

What did you pack for your Camino?
Were you able to pare down to a super ultra light pack
or are you like me?
And no matter how many Caminos you walk, you still find
that you inevitably pack too much.
I'm a fairly big guy, so I can carry a lot
and I don't like to go without if there's something I think
I might need, but when I carry too much, my body begins
to wear down, my hips hurt, my back hurts,
my legs give out earlier in the day.
There is a spiritual parallel here that is profound afraid
of what I might need
or arrogant enough to think
that the rules don't apply to me.
I hold on to things in my life that wear me down.
We all do it. Discarding these burdens may feel like too
significant a cost
or that it just isn't possible to let the burden go.
Ask yourself, what price are you paying by carrying them?
Imagine what would it be like to walk without this weight?
What would happen if I forgave that person?
Who would I be if I didn't feel I had
to solve everyone else's problems?
Can I place my hopes and dreams in God's hands?
And so like an overfilled backpack,
we carry things in our life that we do not need,
which harm us.
All the while we could put these burdens down and find ease.
If you've unloaded something from your backpack
that you found you didn't need, you know what it is like
to unload something of this nature today.
Jesus invites us.
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened,
and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me.
For I am gentle and humble in heart,
and you will find rest for your souls.
My yoke is easy and my burden is light.
