Love Is Patient

Remember the five kilometer an hour God, about how God is content to move at the pace that a man can walk. It isn't something new. Throughout history, he's been doing this. His love is always evident in his patience. After surviving the brutal storm outside of Vertigos, my daughter made me promise that we would avoid such storms in the future. It was quite the reasonable request. One morning when we had walked out of the Al Barga door, lightning lit up the pre-dawn sky. The fear in my daughter's eyes told us that we needed to stay put until the storm passed. I'm not sure we get much right as parents, but we got this right. Staying safe under the eaves of the local church was the right call. Sure, we could have tried to reason with her that we need to keep going, to keep our schedule or whatever the rationale might be. But to what end? I might have a tendency to be impatient, but not God. God is patient. He is perfectly patient. He loves us and is much more concerned with our wellbeing than keeping a schedule. He is willing to wait even if our fears have overwhelmed us and we can't even reason straight. God's patient love allows him to sit with us, holding us as we shake in fear protecting us from the storm. All we have to do is look to him As the psalmist David sings. The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever. He does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him. As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us? Psalm 1 0 3.
