Hope

What is hope? We say things like, I hope it doesn't rain today, or I hope the cafe is open and the coffee's good, or I hope to find love and get married one day. But what does it mean to say my hope is in God and his promises? Christian hope is a lot different from how we often use the word we use hope the way we do because we have little power over our lives and what happens to us. Sure, we can study and get a good job, maybe find someone we love, but really like a pilgrim who's just looking for the next bar to be open. Our hope is nothing more than a wish of some kind, but hope that is centered on a God who loves and cares for his creation, who is faithful to his children. Isn't that kind of wish casting on the contrary hope of that nature is a sure thing. So when we read in the Bible the various promises of a coming kingdom where truth and justice will reign, where the poor will no longer be poor, where the hungry will have food, and we're all are safe and loved, we know that we truly have hope because the promise has been given by the most trustworthy person of all Jesus Christ. Here's how the prophet Micah expresses his hope, but as for me, I watch and hope for the Lord. I wait for God, my Savior, my God will hear me. Micah seven, seven, and Isaiah, the prophet says, those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint. Isaiah 40 31.
