Have you ever met someone who is truly filled with peace?
I don't mean some kind of person
who completely detaches from reality.
The kind of peace I'm talking about is calm in the middle
of the storm, confident when all around is in question.
Jesus himself is considered by psychologists
to be the most grounded, differentiated, healthy human
to ever exist.
Somehow, even on the night
that Jesus knew he would be betrayed
and die on a cross, he took the time to serve others
and focus on them.
How is that even possible?
The gospel writer John, tells us
that he knew the Father had given all things into his hands,
that he had come from God and that he was going back to God.
Therefore, he got up and he washed his disciples feet.
So there it is, peace in the middle of the storm, knowing
who he is, where he had come from,
where he fit into history.
He knew that God's design was good.
This is the source of true peace.
So many of us have experienced peace
like we never have before.
On the Camino, we've relaxed into God's goodness.
This is the kind of peace that Jesus offers,
and even more profound than this, he offers peace where all
of the world will rest in his goodness.
Once again, the Camino serves
as a wonderful foretaste of what is to come.
Jesus says to us today, I have told you these things so
that in me, you may have peace.
In this world, you will have trouble.
But take heart, I have overcome the world.
John 1633.
