In a little village called where cows easily outnumber people. There is a small TiVo Gue called La Fuente de Peregrino or the pilgrims fountain. On the wall outside, there's a simple slate sign which reads, yo, I am the way, the truth and the life. A humble sign for a most profound claim. Jesus words that He is the way, the truth, and the life is no small proposition. It's everything. It is exclusive to all other means to God. Many will claim that there are many paths to God, but Jesus is ruling that option out. There is so much in this outside of Jesus. We will not find true and lasting peace. We will not find forgiveness of sins, power over death or a means by which we find what we are looking for. Jesus makes this statement at the end of his earthly life, before his arrest, death and resurrection, his disciples wanna know how to get to God or to see God. And here Jesus spells it out plainly for them that he alone is a way to God and in him is life and truth. Jesus says to each of us in the book of Revelation, look, I am standing at the door knocking. If anyone hears my voice and lets me in, I will live with them and I will eat with them. So many of us seek things on the Camino thirsty for water that will satisfy, but do we actually turn to the one who can show us the way, who can ultimately satisfy? Do we hear his voice, answer his knock, and let him into our hearts and lives? Pilgrim, on this journey? May Christ who is the way, the truth and the life be your companion. May you follow his way to life and reach the reward of everlasting joy.
