“Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you” (Jeremiah 32:17, NIV).
President Kennedy led the United States in a quest of galactic proportions that culminated on July 20, 1969 (50 years ago) with the first lunar landing. Driven to arrive first on this uncharted land, leaders in science, technology, and business unlocked new creativity, with their eyes fixed on the goal of that historic event.
Our American flag was planted and still stands today on the moon’s surface.
Ten years later, a vision of global proportions was unlocked by Campus Crusade for Christ® founder Bill Bright and one of his staff members, Paul Eshleman. Using a feature film called “JESUS,” they dreamt of planting the flag of Christ in the hearts of people who had yet to even hear His name.
The advent of new technology allowed the gospel on film to encompass the world as “JESUS” was painstakingly translated one language at a time. People group by people group, heart by heart, Jesus Film Project® is reaching the unexplored territories of souls waiting to hear the gospel in their own heart language. Each person reached, each heart flag planted, is cause for great celebration.
Yet, many are still waiting.
Kennedy described happiness as “the exercise of vital powers along lines of excellence in a life affording them scope.” For those of us whose life quest includes hopes set on the fulfillment of the Great Commission, we experience excitement. Excitement in knowing we are daily moving closer to fulfilling the final command of Jesus to go into all the world making disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
